'If this isn't the sound of Summer I don't know what is.' - Sydney Morning Herald
The soulful 'SERAFINA' led by long-standing Foundry favourite Anna Salleh, pays homage to classics by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Baden Powell as well as original Australian compositions.
Brazilian beats for your heart and feet - Bossa Nova, Samba, Choro, and Beyond!
This month features the fabulous lineup of:
Anna Salleh (guitar/vocals)
Loretta Palmeiro (clarinet/sax/flute)
Gino Pengue (guitars)
Chris Fields (percussion)
Anna first fell in love with bossa nova as a child, and later headed for Rio de Janeiro to deepen her understanding of the music. She has performed internationally and is known for her collaborations with some of Australia's best world/jazz musicians e.g. in the Afro Latin Moods Quartet (with guitarist Guy Strazz) and the five-piece Gorgeous Songs from Brazil & Beyond, with which she produced two albums.Gino is a much sought-after guitarist playing a wide range of styles from solo to ensembles with the cream of local and international artists in Sydney. He is a member of the world music band Marsala and an inspiring teacher and mentor of young guitar students.
Loretta is an Australian Arts Council Grant recipient and founding member of gypsy swing group Spyglass Gypsies and co-director of jazz/Portuguese music fusion band Alma Orquestra. She also co-leads a unique duo with Mark Isaacs called Some of Two Parts and performs with the Divergence Jazz Orchestra, Pharos, and toured with ARIA-award winning world-music group Mara.
Chris is a third-generation drummer who performed extensively in the USA, Mexico, and Caribbean before moving to Australia. He has collaborated with artists as diverse as Olivia Newton-John and Barry Gibb to Sandy Evans and Bobby Singh and runs his own band Atma Blu. Chris teaches percussion at the Australian Institute of Music and has a special interest in Latin and Indian rhythms, among others.
Fantastic food and drink served from 6:30pm. Drop-in before the gig!
