NEW WORK
Michael Shirley takes photographs. He uses film and vintage cameras, developing, scanning and printing all his work. For this exhibition he has selected work from 1979-2022, from Darlinghurst to Katoomba. Romance, melancholy, longing, nostagia, loss and humour are all to be found here.
Hugh Wayland's contribution to The Shop Gallery exhibition is two-fold. 'Urban Industria' is a suite of B&W photographs shot on an iPhone, computer-enhanced and printed on Ilford Metallic Gloss paper. 'Burnt Country' comprises paintings and giclee prints - inspired by the devastation of the Black Friday fires in Victoria January 2020. Copper and bronze acrylic paint and charcoal on canvas.
Nell Smith images are informed by long walks in the bush around the Blue Mountains where she lives. From expansive views with big skys to tiny ephemeral wildflowers and slime moulds its a precious environment that needs to be protected. Created on an iPad and giclee printed on archival paper.
Murrumbidgee Jones' paintings are a journey through imaginary landscapes of the past and present - the past seen through the eyes of long gone travellers, the present seen as a pristine world of dreams. Simple concepts relying on colour and composition. Comical and almost surreal.
Shirley Wayland Smith Jones will be at The Shop Gallery 112 Glebe Point Road, Glebe from Friday 19 August to Wednesday 24 August, 11am-5.30pm daily. Opening drinks Friday 19 August 6pm-8pm. James Scanlen officiating.
