This live graphic storytelling event will feature work from emerging animators, designers and cartoonists, all dealing with… relationships. Relationships to family. Relationships to friends. Relationships to oneself. Relationships to global warming, politics, jobs, movies, even a good sandwich. Join us for an evening of funny, weird, soul-searching stories with pictures.
Read To Me is a live visual storytelling event that provides a platform for cartoonists, graphic novelists and other kinds of artists and creatives to share their stories and investigate performative aspects of their work. The combination of live storytelling with the storytellers' own art and images is immersive and captivating in a totally unique way, layered with pathos and humour that emerges in the mingling of voice and image.
Guests include:
Evie Hilliar, under the moniker of Yeevz, has been creating comics as her own personal form of therapy for years now. Her work is a combination of hard work, humour, and chronic oversharing.
Lisa Parr is a storyteller who works in comics, performance and prose. She is a British-Australian artist who currently lives and works on Gadigal land. She is studying for a Master of Creative Arts degree at UTS.
Isaac Wilcox is a Scottish maker of performance, comics, films and poetry. He has collaborated with Lisa Parr since 2016 as 'Gilt Press'.
Samuel Luke is an illustrator who uses graphic narratives and autobiographical storytelling to explore intimate realities of being transgender. He creates prints, artist books, and embroidery works, and currently lives and works in Sydney, on Bidjigal Land, NSW.
Sapphire Sheedy (They/Them) Sapphire used to draw cartoons for work all the time but now draws cartoons sometimes. They are a VFX and Children's Cartoon Production Coordinator by day and a cartoonist when they flippin' feel like it.
Fionn McCabe is an artist, printmaker, and educator currently living on Gadigal and Wangal land with his partner, their two children, a ceaselessly barking dog and a head cold. He is one of the co-founders of Read To Me.
