The Memory Place is a free series writing workshops as part of History Festival, open to anyone who wants to creatively explore family or personal history through poetry.

The emphasis is on writing poems that follow the natural rhythms of speech (free verse) and are built on sensory observations: colour, texture, shape, scent, sound, taste and touch. Working from a photograph, a treasured object, piece of clothing or simply your memory, these workshops will help you shape poems within the framework of your own personal history.

Caroline Reid is an award winning poet, performer and educator who found her feet as a writer in the theatre. She is a multi-finalist in the Australian Poetry Slam and her debut collection, SIARAD (ES-press2020), won second prize in the Poetry Book Awards 2022. Caroline recorded SIARAD as an experimental audiobook and performs it as a spoken word theatre show, most recently at the Red Dirt Poetry Festival in Alice Springs. She is an active member in Australia's spoken word poetry scene, teaches creative writing in the community and mentors new poets.
