The royal collection is one of the largest art collections in the world, assembled by English monarchs for over 500 years.
Spread across 13 royal residences and historic palaces, the collection holds over 1 million objects, including works of art, decorative arts, furnishings, and an extensive library and archive. The collection reflects the tastes of monarchs and their patronage of significant artists and craftsmen and includes many items acquired as gifts.
Civic collection curator, Margaret Betteridge, travelled to London in 2018 to undertake the royal collection studies course at Windsor Castle. She went behind the scenes and met with curators to learn about this outstanding legacy of royal patronage. Join Margaret for this special presentation in celebration of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee.
Margaret was generously supported by The Copland Foundation to attend the royal collection studies course.
Margaret Betteridge is the curator of the City of Sydney's civic collection. She enjoys sharing special stories about Sydney through some of the City of Sydney's fascinating and intriguing objects and archives.
