In March 1942, the eyes of the world descended upon the South Australian mid-north town of Terowie when U.S. General Douglas MacArthur uttered the famous and inspiring words 'I came out of Bataan and I shall return' to the Australian press whilst changing trains, after retreating from the Philippines during World War Two.
An event to commemorate these historic words was planned for March 2020, however it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This important event has now been rescheduled and we invite you to join in commemorating this moment in history with a formal ceremony to take place at 11am on Wednesday 22nd March 2023 at the Terowie Railway Station. Lunch to follow at the Terowie Hall.
