This exhibition shows the diverse forms of art activities by Junko, such as paintings, ceramics, prints and sculptures in metal and paper. These works were produced at workshops at the National Art School. The artist is exploring the possibility of freedom. Accident and spontaneity are the elements of creativity in her work.
Paper is Junko's most familiar material. Collage, sculpture and brush work were done for many years. Because of her Japanese background and knowing the possibilities of paper, she was able to cut, tear, and squash to create unexpected free form and beauty. On the other hand, the metal sculptures were challenging. It required physical and mental strength. During the process, often struggling to handle the materials the artist unexpectedly found tension on the works. (Most metal sculptures are created from collected small pieces of scrap metal which are assembled). Clumsiness when handling heavy materials resulted in distortion which gives a feeling of wonder and curiosity.
All the works are experimental. The artist hopes that the viewers will enjoy finding the feeling of freedom and therefore smile.
