Want to create your own fabulous leather earrings? Want to learn simple jewellery making skills? Want to explore your creative side with colour, pattern and design?
Join me for an evening of fun, creativity and personal expression as you design and make a pair of light, colourful statement earrings out of salvaged leather. We briefly explore design elements such as colour, contrast, pattern, shapes and basic jewellery design. We then paint the leather in bright, contrasting patterns and cut, layer and craft a pair of earrings using simple tools and jewellery findings.
Each step is demonstrated and explained before moving to the next stage of the process. All the leather and jewellery findings are supplied in an individual pack and the jewellery tools and paints will be shared using COVID safe protocols.
This 1.5-hour workshop is suitable for everyone. No jewellery-making experience required just a desire to create and have fun. Plus, a free glass of bubbles on arrival and further food and beverages available to purchase from the onsite bar.
Best of all, everyone leaves with their own original pair of earrings and enough materials to make another pair at home.
A little bit about Xanadu
Xanadu Designs jewellery is fabulous and unique, made from ethically salvaged, hand-painted, metallic and exotic leathers. Full of bright colours, bold patterns and a sense of flamboyant fun, Xanadu Designs jewellery is all about making a statement.
Designer and maker Christina Sceats is inspired by the rich colour saturation and natural patterns of the Australian landscape, fauna and flora. Each piece of leather is hand-painted and cut to create a strong focus on colour, texture and movement, bringing the earrings to life as you move.
Trained as a theatre designer and working many years in the performing arts and then as a teacher, Christina shares her love of theatricality and colour in her jewellery.
Xanadu Designs is sold online and available in stores across the East Coast of Australia, including Design A Space in Melbourne, The Artisan Nest in Newtown and The National Gallery of Australia, Canberra where Christina has designed an exclusive range for the current Botticelli to Van Gogh Exhibition.
