UNSW Arts, design & architecture demonstrates how creativity can change the world.
UNSW Sydney's newest faculty, UNSW Arts, Design & Architecture (ADA), has unveiled ADAnow: a month-long program of online activities and events that celebrates and showcases how its ethos of creativity is shaping the future of our world.
Featuring art exhibitions, music performances, lectures, courses, panel discussions, and podcasts, the ADAnow program is open to the public and brings together exciting thinkers and creators from a range of disciplines including art and design, built environment, social sciences, media, music, humanities, languages and education, to share their insights and explore how creativity and collaboration is tackling some of the most-pressing global challenges we face today.
Highlights of the program include: On Consent (8 September 2021, 6:30pm), a powerful discussion between UNSW ADA alumna, Chanel Contos and Yumi Stynes examining the issues surrounding consent; and the On Creativity panel discussion (7 October 2021, 6:30pm), featuring two leading ADA alumnae: Emmy award-winning filmmaker, Lynette Wallworth and award-wining novelist and journalist, Jessie Tu, in conversation with ADA's Professor Pasi Sahlberg about how we can nurture the power of innovation and creativity to address some of our most pressing challenges.
Another prominent UNSW alumna, Lucy Turnbull AO, will introduce an UTZON Lecture featuring Professor Penny Sparke, focusing on how we can bring nature inside via the field of interior architecture (31 August 2021, 6:30pm). Perfect for lockdown times.
These are just a few of the events that make up a powerhouse of activities with one common goal: how can we best harness creativity and collaboration to seek and solve problems to improve life on earth?
ADAnow is be housed on the faculty's new website where people can easily access the mix of engaging live digital events and fascinating on-demand content.
Dean of UNSW Arts, Design & Architecture, Professor Claire Annesley, shared that the vision behind building the new faculty is grounded in fostering a strong collaborative and inclusive environment to create a community that drives innovation to challenge the status quo.
Speaking about the launch of ADAnow, Professor Annesley said: 'Creativity is the powerful founding ethos of UNSW Arts, Design & Architecture that we are harnessing to solve global challenges. ADAnow is our way of sharing what we do and how we do it, packaged as a month-long digital festival of activities and events. Online, of course, because: COVID.'
The mix of digital events and activities takes place until 12 September with additional events taking place later in the year. The full program can be viewed here. Be sure to book early to avoid disappointment.
