After Dark is a new monthly late-night series that will transform Hyde Park Barracks with live music, performances, ideas and access to the museum experience.

The first After Dark event on Thursday 25 February is part of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and will focus on the theme of Queer Histories.

FBi Radio will curate queer-friendly acts on the atmospheric outdoor stage in the Barracks courtyard and Stereogamous (Johnny Seymour and Paul Mac), electronic music legends who have worked with George Michael and created remixes for artists including Kylie Minogue and Sia Furler, will perform a DJ set and lead a guided meditation in the historic hammock room of the Hyde Park Barracks. Accompanied by a soundscape of sacred LGBTIQA+ music including David Bowie, George Michael and Sylvester, field recordings, sounds and vibro-acoustic therapy this will be a restorative and transformative event.

Audiences will discover the fascinating and tragic story of bushranger Andrew George Scott (aka Captain Moonlite), one of Australia's earliest LGBTQI+ figures. Join a talk hosted by Adam Lindsay, Executive Director of Sydney Living Museums and NSW State Archives, featuring panellists Dr Andy Kaladelfos, Lecturer in Criminology and a historian of crime and criminal justice; artist Todd Fuller, whose work retells the poignant story of Moonlite; and SLM Curator Nerida Campbell.

Fuller's mesmerising hand-drawn animation with whom I was united by every tie (Captain Moonlite), 2018, will be projected onto the museum walls, and guests will also be able to see Moonlite's original letters, penned while he was awaiting execution, that document his feelings for fellow gang member Jim Nesbitt.

Enjoy a pop-up bar by Archie Rose with a free signature cocktail on arrival, and delicious food from Oz Harvest throughout the night.

COVID-19 Safety

All Sydney Living Museums properties observe physical distancing and hygiene measures to protect the health of visitors and staff and minimise the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus). Please read our COVID-19 Conditions of Entry for more information.
