Canberra singer-songwriter Sophie Edwards is a powerful advocate for women and non-binary people in the music industry. Sophie will be sharing her passion for advocacy and music as part of Libraries ACT's special International Women's Day (IWD) event.
Sophie is the perfect guest to promote the 2024 IWD theme of 'Inspire Inclusion' as she shares her experience and passion for inclusion, belonging, relevance, and empowerment.
Sophie, a 2024 ACT Young Australian of the Year Nominee, was frustrated with the treatment of women and non-binary people in the music industry and was inspired to start the 'She's on the Bill' project to push for gender equality in the sector. The project sought to put women and non-binary artists centre stage, but also to prioritise the involvement of female or gender non-conforming managers, sound technicians and photographers, all whom are involved in the entertainment industry.
'She's on the Bill' was launched on International Women's Day 2021 and has since gained momentum and recognition across Australia. This International Women's Day, Sophie will discuss how She's on the Bill has been making change, how the community has responded, what the future holds, and how everyone can get involved and champion a more inclusive world for women.
