Bondi Catholics will be launching a concert featuring 'Historia Esther' and 'Litanies de la Vierge' by Marc Antoine Charpentier on Friday 26 August at 7:30pm at St Anne's Catholic Church.
The prolific and enigmatic light of the Parisian Baroque, Charpentier was a leader in the development and spread of the Italian oratorio, then in a primitive form before its later development by the likes of Handel. These sacred dramas were musical interludes typically portraying characters from scripture. 'Historia Esther'(H.396) is now rarely performed; the concert on the 26th August might even be its Sydney debut.
Music Director Eugene Raggio is a devotee of Charpentier's work and will be leading the resident choir at St Anne's in their first concert.
All are welcome to attended and admission is free!
