After the couple of years we've just had, it's important to give that you-shaped crater on the couch a break. And who better to start the new year with a skip than Cumbiamuffin?

The 15-piece orchestra of Colombian and Australian musicians will bring the energetic, joy-filled rhythms of Latin American cumbia to Speakers Corner for one transportive night.

Led by musical director and trombonist Michael Raper, co-founder and guitarist Carlos Arango and lead singer Angela Rosero, Cumbiamuffin melds Caribbean elements of ragga and roots with the big band, dancefloor swing of pure Latino cumbia. The group is no stranger to sweaty nights at Sydney Festival, after a scalding hot sell-out show in 2020. Elsewhere, Cumbiamuffin has kickstarted dance floors at festivals across Australia, including Manly Jazz, Sydney Fringe and Byron Bay's iconic Bluesfest.

Please know that you will not remain seated for the duration of the performance.

'Cumbiamuffin are a musical force…filling the room with their infectious and hypnotic grooves' - Jazz Australia
