City of Sydney Library Lunchtime Conversations is a series of free talks with authors, artists and experts.

Over the last 4 years, fake news has become an everyday expression, and a major part of what we see and read online. With Covid-19, we have seen the spread of misinformation and fake news intensify, posing unique challenges and dangers to our wellbeing and life.

In this talk Dr Joanne Orlando will show you how misinformation has changed in recent times, and the impact it's having on our wellbeing, work and family life. You'll learn the most effective strategies for spotting fake from real and trustworthy content, how to fact check content that you think might be dodgy, how to minimise the effect of misinformation and fake news and have more control over your technology use.

Dr Joanne Orlando

Dr Joanne Orlando (PhD, M.Ed, B.Ed) has spent over 15 years studying our relationship with technology and how to make it less stressful, happier and more fulfilling. She publishes cutting edge research, and has developed terms such as sharenting and zombie scrolling which have now entered everyday lexicon. Dr Jo provides solutions to today's most pressing digital lifestyle issues through keynotes, articles, TV presentations and podcasts worldwide, and she is the creator of digital literacy program for schools TechClever. Dr Jo's new book Life Mode On, is a revolutionary new approach to living a better life with technology and our personal devices.
