Brookfield Properties is rolling out six weeks of free events for its tenants and the public across its key commercial property assets in Sydney, recognising its commitment to supporting and celebrating First Nations people and culture.
Equal parts immersive and educational, Brookfield Properties' six-week program celebrates the rich histories of our First Nations communities, giving eventgoers the chance to learn about traditional art-making processes, as well as the languages, stories and symbolism that underpin the world's oldest living culture.
Starting with National Reconciliation Week and running through to NAIDOC Week, the events run from May 27 to July 9, with a curated line-up of art exhibitions, interactive art, performances, live music and pop-up markets by First Nations creators.
The theme for this year's National Reconciliation Week is 'Be A Voice for Generations', alongside NAIDOC Week's 2023 theme, 'For Our Elders'. Brookfield Properties is delivering opportunities for eventgoers to learn about the history, tenacity, and future of First Nations peoples. The stories and perspectives of our traditional custodians will be expressed through art, music, live dance and more.
30 May: National Reconciliation Week is kicking off with an immersive dance performance by Brolga Dance Academy at Brookfield Place Sydney, running from 9:15am until 10am.
29 May - 9 June: Dalmarri will be curating a two-week exhibition featuring First Nations artists, running from 8:30am to 6pm. Attendees will also be given the exclusive opportunity to meet the artists on 5 June, 9am to 10am to explore the inspiration behind their works.
14 June: Celebrate community and collaboration through live art. From 10:30am to 1pm, a 2.4-metre-long canvas will be placed in the lobby of Brookfield Place. Visitors will be given the chance to pick up a brush and leave their imprint. A local artist will be there to guide you on traditional practice, with the finished canvas available for purchase.
27 & 28 June: Treat yourself or buy a gift for a loved one at the two-day pop-up market, running from 11am to 2pm, featuring bespoke handmade goods from local First Nations artisans.
