The Hope and Light exhibition is on display in the Council House Foyer Gallery until 15 January and features artists represented by Mossenson Galleries:
Brian Robinson is a Torres Strait Islander promoting the culture of his people and he portrays the myths and legends of the Torres Straits through use of traditional motifs of the Islanders. Robinson is a multi-skilled contemporary artist, whose practice includes painting, printmaking, sculpture and design. He combines his Torres Strait Islander heritage with a strong passion for experimentation and often crosses boundaries between reality and fantasy.
Matthew Clarke likes to paint to make people feel happy. He paints with acrylic paint on linen where his unique sense of shape, colour and proportions flows into naïve style works. Matthew is proud of his achievements which include being a Finalist in the 2021 Archibald prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, and even having his work covering a Melbourne and an Adelaide Tram. Matthew has recently been chosen to exhibit his work in the National Gallery of Victoria for the Melbourne Now Exhibition in 2023.
Kaye Guthrie Adonis is of Scottish/Nigerian heritage. She is also the owner and designer of AKA Artwear and a trailblazer for WA's fashion scene, creating wearable street art for women that's bold and completely unique. One of her outfits was voted top 10 at 2022 Fashion Week by Vogue Australia and she's even dressed Gwen Stefani, Lady Gaga, Tiger and Khaleesi, just to name a few!
Nada Murphy's art concentrates on her connection to the environment and how the landscape discloses stories. Her work focuses on our need to respect and conserve landscape as well as recording how people and their actions are inherently linked to how our country responds.
