After many stops around the globe, recently in Glasgow during COP26, the Ice Box Challenge will be on display from 21 February to 4 March 2022 in Martin Place, Sydney, hosted by the Australian Passive House Association (APHA).
The Ice Box Challenge is a fun and interactive public installation and contest that demonstrates the advantages of Passive House. Two boxes are filled with an equal amount of ice - one box constructed to local building regulations, while the other will meet the international Passive House Standard, a highly energy efficient building performance standard. After a fortnight, the amount of ice left in each box will be measured, with the level of ice remaining used to demonstrate how well each ice box passively kept out the heat.
Climate change is one of the greatest global challenges of our time, with almost 35 percent of global energy consumption currently as a result of the building sector alone. Better building design helps to reduce their carbon footprint, and Passive House technology provides proven and sustainable solutions for this.
Discover how better building design can help us reduce our carbon pollution without changing our behaviour, and how buildings that prioritise #EfficiencyFirst are comfortable and healthy. Visitors can learn how Passive House offers high level of comfort, can help meet climate protection goals, and make significant energy savings. You can also meet the APHA team and volunteers, check out sponsor booths, attend the closing ceremony - and enter the contest with your best guess of how much ice will remain in each box at the end of the fortnight.
We hope to see you there! Don't forget to hashtag #IceBoxChallenge and #IceBoxChallengeSydney to join our social media wall!
