Botanical art is a unique and specialised form of art which portrays an object with precision and detail to bring out their natural beauty.
In this workshop the participants will learn the techniques of sketching an object proportionately in pencil and then use watercolours with light and tone to create depth in an object for botanical art.
Firstly, they will learn how to create depth with light and tone in an object with watercolours then focus on the principles of light, tone and depth in an actual specimen. They will also learn the techniques to do detailing in an object to create a beautiful artwork make it look extremely realistic while exploring the fundamental skills of capturing a natural object in watercolour paints.
By the end of this workshop the participants will have the knowledge of:
Sketch with pencil and understand principles of light and tone.
Basics of detailing for pencil in botanical art.
Basics of watercolour application with light, tone and detailing for an object.
Confidence to attempt an object in botanical art yourself
Principles of botanical art.
This course is ideal for beginners and students that have some experience in watercolour. Refreshments and lunch are provided.
About the tutor: Shipra Shah
Shipra is a passionate watercolour and botanical artist. Her fascination lies in the tremendous variety of exhilarating flora and fauna in this beautiful country. With her eye for detail and meticulous nature, she is drawn by the vision of being able to translate it beautifully into her work. Her motto is, 'simplicity breeds extraordinary work'.
She has followed her passion for over 20 years, starting with a 5 year degree in fine arts from a premier institute, gaining experience as a set designer and then as a store planner and visual merchandiser for almost a decade, before finally following her heart to come back to her true calling - visual arts.
By attending this workshop you are assisting Foundation & Friends to continue our support of the Botanic Gardens, with their vital work in science, conservation, horticulture and education.
