Kick off your lunar new year celebrations at Lunar Lanes - part of the 2022 Sydney Lunar Festival.

Lunar Lanes will transform the laneways of Haymarket into an exciting street party with real community spirit.

Entertainment and activities

The streets of Chinatown will buzz with live entertainment, roving performers, markets stalls, food trucks, DJs and plenty of Instagram moments.

Enjoy performances from Sydney's Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Taiwanese and Japanese community groups on the main stage at Hay Street. From 9pm, dance the night away as a live band performs all your favourite hits.

Lion dancers

Catch 1 of 9 lion dancing performances lined up for Lunar Lanes with whirling lion dancers weaving in and out of the crowds to thunderous drumming.

From 8.45pm, the electrifying LED lion and dragon dancers take their dynamic performance to the streets. The colourful, 10m long, luminous, LED dragon is a sight to behold as it twists and sweeps its way through the festivities.

Dining out

Visit one of the many famed restaurants of Chinatown for a celebratory feast including Ho Jiak, Old Town Hong Kong Cuisine, The Gardens by Lotus, and Auvers. Enjoy a drink at Bancho Bar or at the Glenfiddich double decker bus.

Celebrating the Year of the Tiger

Commemorate the Lunar New Year with a selfie by the majestic tiger lanterns on Dixon Street. It's all part of the Lunar Lanterns waiting for you to explore in the city centre during Sydney Lunar Festival 2022.

 Contained by Susan Chen

Walk through an immersive artwork designed by ceramic artist, Susan Chen. In celebration of the Year of the Tiger, Dixon Street Mall will be transformed into a perfect balance of yin and yang. Both tiger and water share common opposing characteristics such as tranquillity, stillness and calmness, while also capable of showing great strength, ferocity, and power.

100 Good Wishes Quilt by The Haymarket Institute

Keep an eye out for the 100 Good Wishes Quilt displays, designed in reference to a northern Chinese tradition. Located in 6 locations throughout Chinatown, the quilts for the Year of Tiger are based on drawings sent in by children living in Greater Sydney. They symbolise luck, energy and good wishes for the new year. Discover hidden gems of Chinatown as you search for the quilts.
