Marrickville's favourite arts and design store Hypmotive and fresh-food grocer Panetta Mercato are proving to be an unstoppable duo.

Hypmotive owners, Renee and Jake, will again curate a range of uniquely designed crafts from the best emerging and established local artists, designers, and makers from the Inner West and beyond. With up to 20 makers setting up shop monthly at the Metro Markets, there is something unique and creative for everyone! Some of the local makers at the markets in August include:

  • Helen Nehill - In her work, Helen mines the depths of the subconscious to create detailed and intricate psychedelic dreamscapes with a fine liner pen. Rarely working from an initial plan, she uses a stream of consciousness to depict underwater menageries, interstellar space, and strange beasts.

  • Oditi Designs - Founded by Samantha, Cynthia and Cecilia, Oditi Designs and their homewares are immediately recognisable. Geometric mugs with pastel tones, vases embellished with golden touches, indigo ink-platted planters and striking ceramic dolls that are intricately hand-painted.

  • Clare Makes - Natural fragrances helping people to scent their homes and enrich their lives. Claire Nelson's vision for her brand is to see it thrive into a female-led small Australian business.

Partnering with Hypmotive to curate the monthly markets are Christina, Meredith and Dean, the owners behind family-run, fresh-food favourite Panetta Mercato. They have taken their love for incredible food to curate a collective of Australian and local deli products, condiments, and specialty grocery goods. Some of the local producers at the markets in August include:

  • Anna Polyviou - Anna Polyviou is an award-winning pastry chef like no other... with her quirky urban style, distinctive pink mohawk and her contagious fun attitude has everyone wanting more.

  • Jimoto - Two chefs, Max and Doug, who worked together for many years, cooking over the Hibachi, slicing sashimi and serving delicious food, bonded over their deep passion for simplicity, uniqueness, and overall philosophy of Japanese cooking.

  • Lord & Lion - Founded by Eresha De Zoysa, a local who grew up in Sydney, is a 4th generation spice merchant. Lord & Lion bring the authentic flair of Indian and Sri Lankan flavours, straight into Australian homes. The spices are individually sourced and carefully harvested with select organic ingredients where possible and the highest- rated quality of spices.

In addition to the myriad of market stalls at the Metro Markets, there will be entertainment for visitors, young and old alike, including face painting, free food sampling and live music.

The Metro Markets take place monthly at Marrickville Metro, it's the perfect chance to discover something unique and immerse yourself in everything that we love about the Inner West.
