Maya uses fashion and upcycled objects to tell deeply personal stories of identity, safety, and survival.
Drawing on her lifelong connection to op shops as safe havens, Maya transforms overlooked, 'dusty corner' items into wearable art, including handbags and garments that echo the glamour of old Hollywood and styles from the 1920s to the 1940s. Through this exhibition, Maya explores themes of sustainability, mental health, and self-expression.
Her work serves both as a personal coping mechanism and as a beacon for others navigating complex trauma, BPD, and the mental health system. By reimagining discarded materials, Maya offers a space of connection, creativity, and empowerment for those who often feel unseen.
Maya now invites audiences into her world, one filled with vintage charm, emotional honesty, and the transformative power of art.
Launch: Thursday 30 October, 5.30pm to 7pm.
