Global sports brand PUMA has joined forces with key partner, Foot Locker, to take over Pitt Street Mall during the September school holidays in celebration of the first women's signature basketball shoe in over a decade - the Stewie 1, with Breanna Stewart.
'Working with PUMA to craft the first women's signature basketball sneaker in the last 12 years was an honor,' said Breanna Stewart. 'I hope that this is the first in a legacy of signature sneakers to come for women athletes across all sports and serve as inspiration for all young people that this, along with any achievement, is possible.'
Tipping off on Saturday, 24 September, Foot Locker and PUMA will take over Pitt Street Mall and host an outdoor activation to celebrate the Stewie 1 and broader PUMA Hoops portfolio at Foot Locker. Consumers will be invited to participate in all the on-court action with a competition running across the four days to Tuesday, 27 September, during the school holidays.
The free event will be open to the general public from 1pm to 6pm each day, with a special event taking place on Sunday, 25 September, with a surprise guest appearance from an international sporting superstar. More details will be announced in the coming week.
The public are invited to come down to Foot Locker Pitt Street and take part in a 3-ball shoot to win a variety of prizes, including the Stewie 1 itself, a year's supply of PUMA Hoops product, PUMA x Foot Locker vouchers and an exclusive poster designed by renowned Australian artist Tyson Beck.
Stewie's signature sneaker is the latest in PUMA's commitment to growing equality for women athletes. In launching the Stewie 1, Breanna is taking the next step in inspiring a generation of young athletes to believe that a signature shoe is a possibility, no matter who you are or where you are from.
'A signature sneaker for Breanna was long overdue, and we are thrilled to launch the Stewie 1 with Foot Locker while Breanna is in Australia for the FIBA Women's World Cup' says Daniel 'Pancho' Gutstein, General Manager PUMA Oceania.'Equal representation in sport is something PUMA is fiercely committed to, and we look forward to seeing athletes of all ages, backgrounds and genders wearing the Stewie 1 as a reminder of how important progress like this is.'
