Artfully beguiling, subtly chaotic and deliciously zany, the music box project brings you the Sydney premiere of Shallow Listening.

5 'sonic pillars' of exploratory works by Moya Henderson, Jasmin Wing-Yin Leung, Jaslyn Robertson, Elizabeth Jigalin and Joseph Franklin are woven together with a performative sinew of sound, motion and play. From the clicking of scissors to slow motion singing, cheeky meditations on red, a plethora of toys and the catharsis of an internal dialogue - leave your expectations at the door and join the ensemble for an evening of signature music box madness.

Premiered at the 2019 Bendigo International Festival of Experimental Music (BIFEM), this genre-defying performance received the 2020 APRA/AMCOS and AMC Art Music Award for Excellence in Experimental Music.

In the event of COVID restrictions changing, the music box project has planned to present an alternative music experience in place of Shallow Listening. By purchasing a ticket, you are supporting the music box project in making either performance possible. We are closely watching the ever changing situation to let you know of any changes to the performance as soon as possible.

the music box project is Jane Aubourg, Joseph Franklin, Elizabeth Jigalin, Naomi Johnson, Peter Leung, Joseph Lisk and Tina Stefanou.

'FRESH, YOUNG, UNFASHIONABLY EXTRAVAGANT' - APRA AMCOS / AMC Art Music Awards

'the young experimental collective shows there are no boundaries to musical expression. these young talents bewilder the audience...' - Rodrigo Llauro / Amnplify

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation on whose land these performances will take place. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture and we pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.

Please note due to the current situation of things:

🎫 NO tickets will be sold at the door, you must purchase your ticket prior to the performance

👂 Our concerts are COVID safe and presented at a strictly limited capacity to ensure the safety of all listeners

😷 Audience will be required to wear a face mask

🤒 You know the drill! If you are feeling unwell - please stay home.
