A vampire's human familiar, whose burning desire to be turned becomes all-consuming. The familiar mournfully traverses debris of iconography - a cowboy, a veil, a ghost double - in a futile search for transformation.
Composed and performed by Marcus Whale. Set and costume design by Chloe Corkran and Athena Thebus.
About the artists:-
Marcus Whale is a musical artist under his own name and with groups Collarbones and BV, his recorded output primarily forms an electronic world around his singing. Recent releases include solo album Lucifer (2020), and Collarbones' fourth album Futurity (2019), longlisted for the Australian Music Prize. Recent performance works, Praise! in collaboration with Eugene Choi and the Lucifer series in collaboration Athena Thebus have been presented by Performance Space, Asia Topa, Next Wave, Sugar Mountain Festival, Underbelly Arts Festival and Art Month Sydney.
Athena Thebus is an artist whose work deconstructs desire. She has presented solo and collaborative work at Next Wave Festival, Liveworks, Sugar Mountain Festival, Campbelltown Arts Centre, ACE Open, Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA), and Verge Gallery. Most recently, she was shortlisted in the 2020 Churchie Emerging Art Prize, presented at the Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane.
Chloe Corkran (b.1993-1994 Arkansas, USA) Humourist 1st, Stylist/Designer/Artist 2nd. Chloe channels her interests in contemporary and historical fashion, film, and Russian Literature through 'character' as a stylist, costume designer, in her frequent collaborations with Athena Thebus, and as commentator on her podcast Xnorkpowka. She has presented solo and collaborative work at Verge Gallery, TCB, Down/Under Space, and Garden Reflexxx. Don't look her in the eyes.
