Operantics presents The Marriage of Figaro, an abridged concert performance of one of Mozart's most loved operas.
The March lockdown saw Operantics artists from Victoria to Aachen, Germany band together to study Mozart's most famous opera over Zoom. The work and the camaraderie was a balm for the soul during the first bleak months when the world's opera houses were going dark.
The Sydney-based company is taking advantage of the recent relaxation of restrictions to present an abridged, semi-staged production of The Marriage of Figaro at the Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace. All tickets are $65 and can be booked here.
Synopsis
When Susanna reveals to her fiance, Figaro, that his master, the Count Almaviva, intends to seduce her, exercising a long defunct feudal right, they team up with the Countess Almaviva to expose his lechery. Meanwhile, Cherubino is in love with the Countess … and every other woman in the manor, and old Marcellina is determined to make Figaro hers. Cue the intrigue, disguises, jealousy, ridiculous obstacles and high stakes drama of Mozart's most beloved opera.
Cast
Sarah Ampil, Pamela Andrews, Nathan Bryon, Genevieve Dickson, Tristan Lestavel-Entwistle, Katie Miller-Crispe, Timothy Nunn. Accompanied by Nathaniel Kong.
Covid-19 guidelines
Due to COVID-19 regulations, the 4-hour opera has been abridged to a fun and fast-paced 90 minutes, packing in all of the antics and intrigue in less than half the running time - perfect for an afternoon outing with friends.
Please note: People who would like to sit together in the theatre must book in the same transaction. Individuals who book single tickets will be seated with two empty seats either side in order to comply with state health advice. Due to strict seating limits, early booking is advised.
