Music Book Stories is delighted to present a new children's opera by Emma Jayakumar which is being performed during the July school holidays. The opera is adapted from the book
Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge by Mem Fox and Julie Vivas, and has been supported by the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries, the City of Perth, and Moana Hall.
Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge is one of Mem Fox's most beloved books, a charming, funny and poignant story of a young boy who lives next door to a nursing home. When he finds out that his favourite person, Miss Nancy, is losing her memory he sets out to find it for her.
Composer Emma Jayakumar and director Andries Weidemann are the team behind the recent, very successful, WA Ballet production of
The Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, and they will pair up again for this production.
Accompanied by Chimera Ensemble, the role of Wilfrid will be shared by two boys, Dante Pendergrast and Jonathan Cole, with the other roles played by Emma Jayakumar and Brett Peart.
Jayakumar's music is lyrical and instantly accessible, which means, for children and their families, it is a perfect introduction to opera and classical music.
The premiere season of Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge will be performed in
Moana Hall, level 1, 618 Hay St Mall, Perth, from Tuesday 13 July to Friday 16 July, at 10.30am and 1.30pm daily. Moana Hall is an accessible, heritage events venue located near the corner of Barrack St and Hay St Mall, Perth. With ample parking available in the city, and close to public transport and CAT bus routes, the production will be part of a wonderful day out in the city.
Tickets are $15 each, $50 for a family/group of 4, free for children 3 years and under, and Companion Card is accepted. Bookings are essential at
www.trybooking.com/BNYVT or on 0438 898 822.
