Join us at the newly redeveloped Piccadilly cinema in North Adelaide and discover Gilbert and Sullivan beyond the stage through two exciting movies telling the story of their partnership. The Story of Gilbert and Sullivan, produced in 1953 to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, tells the story of Gilbert and Sullivan's career together, from the success of Trial by Jury's opening night through Sullivan's death and Gilbert's knighthood. Mike Leigh's 1999 film Topsy-Turvy presents the creative conflicts of the duo in the lead up to the premiere of The Mikado, including glimpses of behind-the-scenes in the world of Victorian life and theatre. Each event will include an exclusive screening of Barry Purve's Gilbert & Sullivan: The Very Models, the award-winning animation shorts portraying Richard D'Oyly Carte, the theatrical impresario who brought Gilbert and Sullivan together.
