Formally trained as a painter, Georgia began her journey as an artist with a fascination for everyday objects. Working across a range of media, her works explore the absurdity of the everyday through the lens of personal narrative.
Open Home presents evocative and miniature domestic spaces at 1:12 scale, exploring memory, identity and the dream of home ownership.
For many Australians, home ownership is an unobtainable dream. With most people facing uncertainty amidst the current cost of living crisis, many families are forced to make huge sacrifices in order to keep a roof over their head.
Through the exploration of imagined, miniature living spaces, you, the audience, are invited to participate in an intimate open home experience. Aided by the careful placement of inanimate objects, you can draw assumptions about, give identities to, and create in your mind the inhabitants of these strangely familiar spaces. Each room tells the story of seemingly isolated residents who occupy the same modular unit of space. Through the collection and arrangement of their material possessions, the residents indirectly show us the importance and value of their homes and what aspects make their home theirs.
