Patterns in nature reflecting patterns in life is a theme in Jennifer Procter's exhibition Intertidal. An 8-minute dual channel video exploring the intertidal zones of the south coast of Australia; an ecosystem where the ocean meets the land between high and low tides and the nature that exist within them. It considers their cyclical rhythms, emerging and receding and the polarized in-between place.
Intertidal is a choreography of diverse atmospheres. Animated drawings in charcoal, graphite, oil pastel, watercolour and paper cut-outs are presented in large-scale, so the viewer is immersed and intimate with the hand-drawn world. Samples and loops of natural sounds, recurring violin, cello and percussion also speak to the layers and patterns in nature and the rhythm and movement of life. There are pauses of silence or stillness, doorways into the experience beyond appearances.
