Celebrate all things Japanese at Japanese Cultural Day events at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mt Coot-tha. This year the festivities will return in a new format over four Sundays in August (8, 15, 22 & 29 August 2021).
Japanese Rice-cake (mochi) is a unique, sticky and stretchy snack. In Japan, mochi has been eaten since ancient times for New Year's, seasonal events, and festive celebrations. Much of the mochi sold in markets today are pounded together by machines but traditionally ingredients are combined manually by hand.
Come and watch this festive demonstration of the traditional method of making mochi.
You must not attend if you have COVID-19 related symptoms, have been in close contact with a person who is COVID-19 positive, have travelled overseas or to a COVID-19 hotspot in the past 14 days, or are COVID-19 positive.
