Living Longer Living Stronger is a progressive strength and balance program designed to improve your strength, balance, and mobility.
It doesn't matter if you have never done an exercise class before, or if you are relatively unfit. Each person will be individually assessed for their physical level and a tailored exercise program will be created for each attendee. The classes are designed for people of all levels of ability. Through regular attendance, you will gradually increase the level of work you do to develop your strength.
Strength training benefits include: increasing muscles mass and strength, improving insulin sensitivity, improving joint health, improving cognitive function and reduces anxiety and depression, improving balance and confidence in the way you move, improving coordination and reduces your risk of falls and other injuries, increasing brain function and learning
A qualified exercise professional from SHARE who has undertaken accredited training through Council on the Ageing NSW (COTA) will lead the class. They have a good understanding of the needs of older people and will create a friendly environment that you will feel comfortable in. The program provides an opportunity for socialising and meeting new people.
Bookings are essential. To book contact SHARE on 8580 0628 or email info@share.org.au. The program is also available at St Helen's Community Centre and Reginald Murphy Community Centre on Thursdays and Ron Williams Community Centre on Fridays.
This program is run by SHARE, developed by the Council on the Ageing NSW (COTA) and supported by City of Sydney.
We aim to deliver inclusive and accessible events. If you have any particular access or communication needs please contact Maria or Louise community workers on 02 9265 9116 or email msanna@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au.
The Cliff Noble Community Centre is open Monday to Friday 9:30am to 3:30pm. We have free computer use, photocopier/scanner, Wi-Fi, table tennis & tea/coffee/biscuits, plus many weekly activities like computer help, craft groups, gentle exercise, tai chi & creative writing.
