Animating the Art Gallery of New South Wales with live works and playful transformations, artists Latai Taumoepeau and Brian Fuata present Monumental, a curated weekend of multidisciplinary performance, works and live activations.

Performances by fifteen artists and collectives from across diverse practices, genres and communities will challenge and contest the idea of monuments and what is chosen to be revered and memorialised. From aerial performances on the Art Gallery's walls, to the display of a person as a living artefact, to assuming the understated presence of a cleaner, the artists will shift and prod at the experience of the art museum.

Performance works include playful interventions, sculptural installations, dance and movement based activities, sound and song, participatory tours, ceremonial practice and provocations.

The free weekend-long program will surprise, delight and open up new conversations about how we experience art museums.

Monumental is staged as part of the Art Gallery's 150-year anniversary celebrations.

Monumental features: Angela Goh; Annette Tesoriero, Maria White & Halcyon; Azzam Mohamed & Jack Prest; Demon Derriere; House of Slé; Ivey Wawn & Niki Verrall; Julie-Anne Long; Lucky Lartey; Malcolm Whittaker; Rakini Devi; Samia & Adonis; Sela Vai & Fetu Taku; SJ Norman & Peter Polites; Strings Attached; Weather Beings (Victoria Hunt & Moe Clark).

Produced in collaboration with Harley Stumm of performing arts company Intimate Spectacle and supported by City of Sydney.

Stay for the whole four hour program, or drop in and out if you prefer. The full schedule is available on the AGNSW website to help plan your visit. The same program features on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th, so you don't need to come both days... unless you want to!
