Libraries ACT will be hosting the prestigious Nikon-Walkley Press Photography Exhibition at Civic Library, an extraordinary celebration of the talent and dedication of Australian photographers. Focusing on excellent visual storytelling, this exhibition will take customers on a journey through the world of news, sports, portraiture, and visual essays, where fleeting moments are transformed into unforgettable images that defined the year.

The Walkley photographic awards are a vital component of the esteemed Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism, the highest honour in Australian news reporting since 1956. As the media landscape has changed, the Walkleys have kept pace, expanding to 30 categories as they celebrate talent and excellence across all forms of media.

Chosen from over 3000 entries, the Walkley photography judges have carefully selected the top three finalists in each category based on newsworthiness, impact, creativity, and technical prowess.

The awards include:
Nikon Photo of the Year - An outstanding image worthy of individual recognition.
Nikon-Walkley Press Photographer of the Year - Demonstrating the range and self-editing skills in a body of work.
News Photography - Representing a news event.
Sport Photography - Captures the emotion and drama of sport and athletes.
Nikon Portrait Prize - A single image that says a great deal about an individual.
