These September school holidays, get ready to step into the world of Evelyn Roth's Nylon Zoo Story Theatres presented in partnership with the 2023 AWESOME Festival. Yagan Square Amphitheatre will transform with a spectacle of ten giant, inflatable, native Australian animals. There'll be creatures, storytelling , dress-ups, dancing, and LOTS of selfies, and… best of all it's FREE!
The zoo is brought to life through the masterful combination of textiles, sculpture and performance by internationally acclaimed interdisciplinary artist, Evelyn Roth.
The Yagan Square Amphitheatre will be transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity and learning as children and families have the chance to immerse themselves in the wonders of the Australian environment from inside a giant inflatable classroom. Children will choose a colourful costume that invites them to engage with Australian native birds and animals such as kangaroos, bilbies, koalas, frogs, bats, butterflies, magpies, parrots, crows, and owls. In grand spectacle, they will embark on an interactive exploration of their chosen animal through movement and dance and learn unique behaviours and characteristics of their animal companions, and insight into the importance of preserving their habitats and protecting endangered species.
But the adventure doesn't stop there. Children return their costumes and line up at the entrance of one of ten giant inflatable creatures, ranging from a bilby to a spotted quoll, a leafy sandragon or even a dung beetle! As they enter, they step into a world full of wonder and enchantment, guided by a skilled storyteller. The children will be inspired to become champions of the environment, armed with knowledge and compassion.
No bookings are required and entry is free.
While you're there, take a Zooventure to celebrate 125 years of Perth Zoo Yagan Square is joining forces with Perth Zoo to celebrate 125 years!
