Have you ever wanted to know what happens to your waste, or how to live a more low-waste lifestyle? The Earth Carers course is a dynamic four-week program designed for residents within the City of Perth. This course teaches practical ways to live with less and produce less waste.
Join us for the City's Earth Carers course, where you will learn about global, national, and local waste. The course includes interactive sessions, behind-the-scenes tours, workshops, and demonstrations. The course runs for five sessions starting on Thursday, May 30, 2024, and is tailored for all City of Perth residents (it doesn't matter if you live in an apartment or a house).
Led by waste guru Peg Davies (Lessen with Peg), who boasts over 13 years of experience in the waste industry, the course covers all aspects of waste management, from organics to low-waste living and bin basics. Peg's informative and engaging workshops will address all your questions, supplemented by insights from the City of Perth's Waste Education Team.
A light supper will be provided during evening sessions, and morning teas will be served during weekend sessions. The course is FREE and promises to equip you with practical skills to reduce waste.
Thursday 30 May | 6 - 8:30pm
Introduction to waste: Explore the history of waste, where exactly your waste goes, and why we have so much of it. Learn about waste in Perth, WA, and around the world.
Thursday 6 June | 6 - 8:30pm
Reducing our impact: Let's delve into waste and sort through it! Explore various options for WA's waste, focusing on reducing food and textile waste.
Saturday 8 June
Tour: A trip to the Resource Recovery Group's Canning Vale Centre where you will see the behind-the-scenes of the FOGO processing facility and the Materials Recovery Facility, where recyclables from the yellow lid kerbside bins are sorted and baled for resale.
Thursday 13 June | 6 - 8:30pm
How to spread the Earth Carer message: Discover what you can do in your community and how to communicate your new knowledge at home, work, or school. Past Earth Carers will share their success stories, inspiring you to make changes in your communities.
Sunday 16 June | 9am - 12pm
Organic waste: This hands-on session will teach you how to deal with organic waste at home and in the workplace. You will also learn about community gardens and the ShareWaste app.
We understand that attending five sessions can be demanding, and we appreciate your commitment to learning about living more lightly. We kindly ask that you sign up if you can commit to all five sessions.
Photography will be conducted at the workshops. Please advise staff if you do not wish to be included in photos that may be used for promotional purposes.
* Please note that priority for this course will be given to City of Perth residents.
