Why not visit the Australian Museum after hours?

Across summer the Australian Museum will be opening its doors until 9pm on Thursdays for visitors to delve into its newly renovated and reopened spaces. Visit after work or a day in the sun and wander through the summer blockbuster Tyrannosaurs - Meet the Family (paid ticket required), shake your bones to the tunes of an awesome line-up of DJs and relax at the pop-up bar.

Tickets are not required for Nights at the Museum, however guests are required by the NSW Government to register their details on arrival for COVID-19 contact-tracing purposes.

  • Enjoy the sounds of DJs including Ayebatonye, Terazatron and Salllvage.

  • Kids and big kids can get creative in Prehistoric Playground play space.

  • Become a Member and discover more of the AM on a Meet the New Museum Member only tours. Every hour, free with limited capacity. Book at the Members Lounge on arrival.

  • Delve into the collection on a short 3 Objects gallery spotlight tour where you'll learn the stories behind three key specimens. Every 30 mins, free with limited capacity. Book at Crystal Hall main entry on arrival.

  • Visit exhibitions Tyrannosaurs - Meet the Family and Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year.

21 January: Ngalu Warrawi Marri - We Stand Strong

Registration is essential for this event.

Join us for an after hours event championing First Nations voices, celebrating and discussing the issues that matter to us.

  • DOBBY and Barkaa live performance, and at 5.30pm in conversation in the Westpac Long Gallery.

  • Salllvage will be spinning in the Hintze Hall.

  • Why You Can't Speak For Us - a discussion on representation, race and resilience hosted by Sara Khan of FBI's Race Matters in the Westpac Long Gallery at 6.30pm.

  • Truth Telling short First Nations Gallery tours every 30 minutes. Free with limited capacity. Book at Crystal Hall main entry on arrival.

  • Weaving workshops and jewellery making with First Nations artisans.

  • Visit exhibitions Tyrannosaurs - Meet the Family (paid ticket required) and Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year.
