This showcased event has concluded.
The Rivers Sing returns to wind its way down the Birrarung (Yarra) and Maribyrnong rivers, a large-scale audio artwork created by Yorta/Yuin composer and soprano Deborah Cheetham, with artists Byron J Scullin and Thomas Supple.
At dusk, every night during the festival, collections of field recordings taken from native bird calls and animal sounds will layer and blend with the symphony of human voices to rise above the city noise, inviting us to pause and listen together again.
The Rivers Sing reprises its nightly call to the city from RISING 2021, keeping Melburnians company once again—a link to waterway singing traditions used to amplify messages and acknowledge nature's voice.
This is a free event.
Commissioned by RISING and supported by the Besen Family Foundation and the Restart Investment to Sustan and Expand (RISE) Fund - an Australian Government initiative. Venue support provided by Victoria University.
